Her mother and she began singing professionally at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark in the year Whitney was just fifteen years old. They performed backing vocals on Chaka Kans' hit song from 1978 Im Every Woman. Her mother, Jermaine and Lou Rawls were some of the musicians she performed with. The cover of her album in 1981 was included in Seventeen Magazine. In 1983 in 1983, the New York City funk-rock band Material employed her as their featured singer. Three of her singles, Saving My Love To You, How WillI Know I'm Giving You Good Love, and the Greatest Love of All came from the album. The songs contributed to Houston to achieve a record seven US top tens, which surpassed even The Beatles. Album sold in US 3,000,000 copies and then reached 25 million world-wide. This was her first win in her 6 Grammys. The album Whitney, released in 1987, and featuring the smash singles Where Do Broken Hearts go? and I Wanna Dance With Somebody, continued her earlier success. But it was The Bodyguard (1996) that established her as one of music's best sellers. While her performance in the film and soundtrack weren't well received however, their Dolly Parton cover I Will Always Love You and the album that accompanied it dominated the singles charts and album charts around the globe for several months. The album sold over 44 million copies. It was also in 1993 when she got married Bobby Brown, an ex-New Edition musician and father of the sole child of her marriage, Bobbi Kristina Brown.
